Who is who....

our black cat who picked us 
to be her parents....
who thinks she is a dog 
and doesn't use the litter box 
but rings the bell to go outside....

she is already outside....

Kitchen love....

On Friday I traveled to Ikea with two friends and we fell in love with these two kitchens. 

I am sad to say there is no progress on our kitchen.  
Work, college, kids sporting schedules, 
and a job change for Tony has left little time for home improvements....
This is okay because last year I dreamed of white kitchen cabinets
 but now I am loving this grey.....

Bacon and Blue Cheese Flatbread Appetizer

Are you looking for a quick and easy appetizer 
or a light meal? 

The other evening I needed a easy appetizer to take to a party.
I found myself walking the isles of the grocery store, hoping something 
would just jump into my cart....sad to say that didn't happen! 

I did spy pre-made flatbread and called Tony and asked what 
could I do with flat bread???
Here is what we came up with!!

Bacon and Blue Cheese Flatbread


Step 1:
Buy a pre made flatbread (or use this recipe to make homemade flatbread)  and drizzle with 1 Tablespoon of Olive oil and spread over top of bread. 

Step 2:
Apply a thin layer of pre-made Basil Pesto (our flatbread used 2 TBSP)

Step 3:
Top with (1) 4oz can of cooked sliced mushrooms, 2 TBSP Bacon pieces (we used bacon bits), 
3 oz (1/2 of a 5oz container) of crumbled Blue Cheese

Step 4:
Bake for 10 minutes in 350 degree oven and then broil for 3 minutes (or until the top is golden brown)

Step 5:
Slice, serve, and enjoy.....


We had so much fun with this recipe and thinking of
the new possibilities! Wouldn't artichoke and chicken make a
delicious flatbread? Yum....

Stepping back in time...

My brother (Uncle Mark) and I had the opportunity to get to be part of our Great Grandpa's life. When he passed, I was 15 years old and Uncle Mark was 12 years old....I feel very blessed. We spent many days in our younger years at Great Grandpa's home, since my mom would check on him and help clean his house each week. His house went for auction when I was 15 years old and I remember thinking how much I loved this home and the memories it held and so sad that it did not stay in the family.

That was 1985 and now his home is for sale again. My mom called to see if we wanted to tour the open house....of course we do!!! Lets go....

The house looks very much like it did when my Great-Grandparents owned it.

The house was built by my Great-Grandparents in 1925.
The trolley ran down main street,
which made an easy commute to work each morning.

 Yes, I will take one of those kitchen sinks please...

Tony is in the enclosed back porch.

Mom (grandmom) is taking in the kitchen. 
On the corner of the kitchen counter was a tin that 
Great Grandpa kept M&M's in and
we were allowed one handful. We would work
real hard to get the largest handful possible!

The back yard that use to have a swing
and two large gardens behind the garage. 
And the view use to be fields....not a development.

Pizza Nacho's

Pizza Nachos have become a weekend favorite appetizer and it is so very easy!


Place a layer of tortilla chips down first and drizzle a thin layer of 
pizza sauce over chips. 


Add a layer of mozzarella cheese and peperoni's 
(or toppings of your choice)


Repeat the layers again....


Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes or until cheese is melted!

Chicken Bubble Up


Over the years some of our favorite recipes have come from Aunt Shari!
This year on New Year's Eve, Aunt Shari made a Chicken Bubble Up and a Pizza Bubble Up.
This is a fun recipe and we were excited to give it a try.


Chicken Alfredo Bubble Up

Ingredients:
2 cans Refrigerated Large Biscuits (We used Grands Biscuits)
1 jar Alfredo Sauce
2 Cups Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp Italian Seasoning
2 Cups diced cooked chicken

Step 1:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Step 2:
Cut each biscuit into 6 pieces and place in a large bowl. Mix biscuits with the Alfredo sauce, garlic powder, salt, and Italian seasoning.

Step 3:
Add cheese and chicken. Mix well.

Step 4:
Spray a 9x13 in pan with cooking spray. Pour biscuit mixture into the pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or until biscuits are done (especially the center biscuits)


The kids loved it. We think next time we are going to try it with ham and peas mixed with the Alfredo sauce. We are also going to try the chicken curry recipe with the biscuits, too. I think the possibilities are endless!!

Did I tell you it was super quick and easy...which makes this recipe a winner for everyone!!

Slow Cooker Lasagna

Happy New Year!

This morning we were taking a walk down memory lane by reading past blog posts and I not promising but going to try to blog a little bit more in 2014. I am very excited about 2014 and continue to strive to keep things simple. 

One way of my favorite ways to keep it is simple is to cook with our slow cooker. I would be lost without it! This recipe is a family keeper and we use it so often that we make it up as we go sometimes. The last time we made lasagna in the slow cooker with changed the ingredients to make it a white lasagna with chicken and spinach...yum! Today I am sharing the original recipe that started a love with making lasagna in the crock pot aka slow cooker!



Slow Cooker Lasagna

Ingredients:
1 lb of sausage or ground beef
1 medium onion chopped
3 cans (15oz each) Italian style tomato sauce
(we use Tony's sauce he canned over the summer- one large jar)
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups Mozzarella cheese
1 container (15oz) ricotta cheese
1 cup of Parmesan cheese
1/2 lb provolone cheese sliced
(Gram taught us to use provolone cheese in our lasagna...yum!)
15 uncooked lasagna noodles

Step 1:
Mix Mozzarella cheese (saving 1/2 cup for top layer), ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese together in a small bowl. Place in refrigerate.

Step 2:
Cook sausage (or ground beef) and onion till browned, stir in tomato sauce and salt. 

Step 3:
Spray inside of slow cooker with a non-stick spray (we used Pam) and then layer meet mixture, noodle, cheese mixture and slices of provolone cheese until you reach top of slow cooker.

Step 4:
Cover and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours

Step5:
Sprinkle top with reserved 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese 10 minutes before serving.
