This morning we were taking a walk down memory lane by reading past blog posts and I not promising but going to try to blog a little bit more in 2014. I am very excited about 2014 and continue to strive to keep things simple.
One way of my favorite ways to keep it is simple is to cook with our slow cooker. I would be lost without it! This recipe is a family keeper and we use it so often that we make it up as we go sometimes. The last time we made lasagna in the slow cooker with changed the ingredients to make it a white lasagna with chicken and spinach...yum! Today I am sharing the original recipe that started a love with making lasagna in the crock pot aka slow cooker!
Slow Cooker Lasagna
1 lb of sausage or ground beef
1 medium onion chopped
3 cans (15oz each) Italian style tomato sauce
(we use Tony's sauce he canned over the summer- one large jar)
1/2 tsp salt
2 cups Mozzarella cheese
1 container (15oz) ricotta cheese
1 cup of Parmesan cheese
1/2 lb provolone cheese sliced
(Gram taught us to use provolone cheese in our lasagna...yum!)
15 uncooked lasagna noodles
Mix Mozzarella cheese (saving 1/2 cup for top layer), ricotta cheese and Parmesan cheese together in a small bowl. Place in refrigerate.
Cook sausage (or ground beef) and onion till browned, stir in tomato sauce and salt.
Spray inside of slow cooker with a non-stick spray (we used Pam) and then layer meet mixture, noodle, cheese mixture and slices of provolone cheese until you reach top of slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours
Sprinkle top with reserved 1/2 cup of mozzarella cheese 10 minutes before serving.
